McLean, VA Chapter
The McLean chapter of Craft Action is a youth-led group that brings hands-on, creative workshops to elementary students. Our programs combine art with interactive lessons on topics like environmental science, basic biology, and global awareness — helping kids explore big ideas in fun and accessible ways.

Defne Cezooglu
Lead Volunteer
My name is Defne Cezooglu. I was born and raised in Turkey. I started doing arts and crafts around the age of 8 where I enrolled in an art course. Since then, I have been actively doing art. My main inspiration for art comes from pieces of media I enjoy, such as music, comic books, and series. Art played a role on who I am, thus now I aspire to help kids develop their artistic side.
Raya Al-Chaderchi
Lead Volunteer
Hi! My name is Raya, and I am passionate about expressing myself through art. I am from Iraq and grew up surrounded by rich cultural art styles, from music to painting to literature. Being exposed to different artistic traditions inspires me to explore many forms of creativity. I enjoy volunteering in my free time and learning from others through my experiences.

Aemanda Brouck
Lead Volunteer
Aemanda is a student based in McLean, VA: I love volunteering because it allows me to give back and support people who may need help. It makes me feel connected to my community. Being from Ethiopia has shaped my perspective. I come from a culture that values community, generosity, and supporting one another. I’m passionate about volunteering because I want to have the ability to use what I’ve learned to make a difference, even in small ways.

We are looking for high school volunteers to help run our free after-school programs. Volunteers guide students through activities such as colorful paper collages, origami, and mini terrariums, fostering creativity, curiosity, and teamwork.
By joining our chapter, volunteers gain leadership experience, mentorship skills, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their community. You’ll be part of a supportive team that encourages students to ask questions, explore their imagination, and have fun while learning.
